Indian Style Raw Mango & Drumsticks Dal Curry

Clean and wash the lentils.

Pressure cook the lentils for 2-3 whistles with enough water, half of the chopped onions, a pinch of asafoetida, and salt until the dal is cooked completely.

Remove from flame and allow the pressure to release. Mash the dal slightly and keep it aside.

In a saucepan, add the mango slices, drumsticks, turmeric powder, and salt and cook until the pieces are soft and cooked.

Keep this aside.

Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, & dry red chilies.

Add the chopped onions and saute until translucent. Add crushed garlic, green chilies, and asafoetida. Saute for a minute.

Add the chopped tomatoes and saute until they are soft and mushy.

Add the mashed dal, mangoes, and drumsticks. Add water if the dal is too thick.

Add the freshly grated coconut and simmer for a 3-4 mins. Remove from flame.

Serve hot with steamed rice and side dish of your choice.
