Ingredients

  • 2 cupsMixed lentils/ dal
  • 1/2 cup Gram flour/ besan
  • 1 cupCurd/ dahi
  • 1/4 teaspoonTurmeric/ haldi
  • 1 tablespoonLemon juice/ nimbu ras
  • 1 tablespoonSugar/ cheeni
  • to tasteSalt/ namak
  • 1 tablespoonFOR TADKA - Oil/ tel -
  • 1 teaspoonMustard seeds/ raai -
  • 1 pinchAsafoetida/ hing -
  • 1 tablespoonLemon juice/ neebu ras -
  • 1 tablespoonSugar/ cheeni -
  • 2Chopped chilies/ hari mirch -
  • Curry leaves/ meetha neem - few
  • to tasteSalt/ namak
  • a hand fullChopped coriander/ dhaniya patta -
  • 1 cupWater/ pani
  • 1 teaspoonEno
  • 1 teaspoonBaking powder

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the lentils and soak in water for 5 hours.

  2. 2

    Drain water and then grind it in a mixer to make a smooth paste for batter.

  3. 3

    Grease the dhokla stand with some oil. Add remaining ingredients (except baking power and eno) in above dal batter. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Add eno and baking powder and mix with a light hand. Pour the batter in dhokla stand immediately and steam for 20 minutes on medium flame.

  5. 5

    FOR TADKA - Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it. When seeds starts crackling, add curry leaves and chopped green chilies. Mix the remaining ingredients of tadka and switch off the gas.

  6. 6

    When dhokla and tadka cools down, cut the dhoklas in pieces and pour tadka over it.

  7. 7

    Yummy and healthy 'Mixed Dal Dhokla' is ready to be served with chutney!
