Ingredients

45 mins
Yield 750 ml
  • 1/4 cupSplit Green Gram/Moong dal
  • 3/4+ 1 cup + 1.5 cup Water
  • 1/3 tspTurmeric Powder
  • 1Boiled Potato
  • 1Tomato(finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cupFinely chopped beans
  • 1/2 cupFinely chopped carrot
  • 2 tbspLemon Juice
  • 1 tspSalt
  • To grind into a paste
  • 1/4 cupCoconut
  • 2 tbspMint leaves
  • 2 tbspCoriander leaves
  • 1/2 tspPoppy seeds (soak in hot water for 30 mins)
  • 1/2 tspCumin seeds
  • 1/2 tspFennel seeds
  • 2Green Chilli
  • For Seasoning
  • 3 tbspOil
  • 1/2 tspMustard
  • 1no Bay leaf
  • 1 inchCinnamon
  • 1no Cardamom
  • 2nos Cloves
  • 1no Green Chilli(Sliced)
  • 2 tspGrated Ginger
  • 1/4 tspAsafoetida/Hing Powder

Steps

  1. 1

    Cook moong dal in a pressure cooker for 4 to 5 whistles with 3/4 cup water & turmeric powder.

  2. 2

    Cook beans and carrot together with 1.5 cup water.

  3. 3

    Grind all the ingredients mentioned under the head "to grind into a paste" in to a fine paste.

  4. 4

    Heat oil. Pop up mustard. Add bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, sliced green chilli, grated ginger and hing. Saute. Add tomatoes. Cook till the tomatoes become soft.

  5. 5

    Add mashed moong dal and 1 cup water. When it comes to a boil, add mashed potato and cooked vegetables.

  6. 6

    Now add in the coconut paste and salt. Let it cook on low flame for 3 to 5 mins.

  7. 7

    Mix in the lemon juice.

  8. 8

    Offer Kadappa along with idlis to Lord Sri Krishna and honor Krishna Prasadam.
