Ingredients

30 mins
1 litre/3-4 per
  1. 1 cupToordal
  2. 1/2 tspTurmeric Powder
  3. 3 tbspGhee
  4. 1.5 cupAmaranth Leaves
  5. 1 tbspOil
  6. 1/2 tspMustard
  7. 1/4 tspAsafoetida Powder
  8. 10Curry Leaves
  9. 1/8 tspFenugreek Seeds
  10. 2Green Chilli(Slit Vertically)
  11. 2 tspGrated Ginger
  12. 1 tbspSambar Powder
  13. 2Tomatoes(Finely Chopped)
  14. 1Lemon Size Tamarind
  15. 2.5-3 tspSalt
  16. 4 cupsWater

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak the tamarind in hot water for 15 mins. Extract thick pulp. Discard the fiber. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Pressure cook the toordal with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp ghee and 3 cups of water for 3 to 4 whistles or till it becomes soft.

  3. 3

    Add the greens & 1 cup water and pressure cook for 1 whistle and set aside.

  4. 4

    Heat oil. Splutter mustard seeds. Add hing, curry leaves, fenugreek seeds, ginger and green chilli. Saute.

  5. 5

    Now add the finely chopped tomatoes, sambar powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, tamarind pulp and salt.

  6. 6

    Cook till the oil separates.

  7. 7

    Add this to the cooked dal & greens mixture and cook on low flame for 5 mins.

  8. 8

    Top with ghee.

  9. 9

    Offer Thottakoora Pappu along with Steamed Rice or Chappati to Lord Sri Krishna and honor Krishna Prasadam.
