Heat oil. Splutter Mustard. Add Channadal, Urad dal, hing, cumin seeds, curry leaves, ginger and green chilli, one after the another and saute. Take care not to burn any of the ingredients.

Add cabbage and bell peppers. Saute.

Now add the potato or carrot. Sprinkle some water and cook for 5 mins.

Add water and let it come to a boil.

Add the broken wheat and mix well.

Cook open till it absorbs 3/4th quantity water.

Close and cook on lowest flame for about 15 to 20 mins.

Garnish with grated coconut.

Offer Broken Wheat Upma with Coconut Chutney to Lord Sri Krishna and honor Krishna Prasadam.
