Chitau Pitha with Coconut(Appam)
This is a Odiya delicacy
Steps
- 1
Soak the rice for about 4 hours.
- 2
Grind together the soaked rice, milk & grated coconut with a little water to make a smooth paste. Add baking powder & let it ferment in a warm place.,(the consistency of the batter should be watery).
- 3
Add salt & sugar- note we do not add salt in the previous stage because it would demote the fermentation process.
- 4
Check for the consistency,if the batter is too thick then add water little by little.
- 5
Preheat the kadai/frypan with 1/2tsp ghee.
- 6
After the kadai is heated scoop a ladle full of the mixture & pour in the centre.
- 7
Cover the kadai/frying pan with a lid. Cover the side of the lid with a wet cloth.
- 8
Cook it in a low medium flame.
- 9
After few minutes remove it from flame, no need to flip the upper portion of the pitha/appam.
- 10
Serve with kheer.
- 11
Enjoy the odiya delicacy.
