Ingredients

6 servings
  • 1 cupyellow moong daal
  • 1 cupsugar
  • 1 cupghee
  • 4 cupswater
  • 10 strandskesar
  • 4elaichi or half tsp elaichi powder
  • 1/2 cupdry fruits (almonds, cashews,pista,kishmish)
  • 100 gmsmawa plain

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak daal for 5 to 6 hours.

  2. 2

    Grind in grinder without water. Thick paste.

    In a pan heat water,add sugar,kesar,ellachi powder.

    Cook this mixture till sugar melts.

  5. 5

    Now in heavy bottomed pan heat ghee.

  6. 6

    Once it heats switch off gas.

  7. 7

    Then add daal mixture in it.

    Mix daal and ghee together to make a paste like structure.

    Now switch on the gas and cook on medium flame (bhuno)

    After five mins mixture will change it's colour and become little thick.

    AT this stage add 1 tsp besan.

    Now continue to cook and lower the flame.

    After 10 mins halwa will be like this

    Cook it till 20 to 25 mins approx till it becomes golden and your house is filled with aroma.

  15. 15

    When the daal is cooked it will automatically loosen.(it took 25 mins to achieve this stage)

    Now this is the time to add nuts and mawa.

    Stir for a minute and add water,sugar mixture.

    Cook on high flame till water dries a little and slower the flame

    When gas is slow cover with lid approx five mins so that the ghee is released.

    Serve hot. You can store thus halwa up to 7 days in fridge.

  21. 21

    More ghee You add more is the taste.U can add mawa and dry fruits after adding water.
