Ingredients

  • 1 cup- curry leaves
  • 3 tbs- udad dal
  • 1 1/2 tbs- chana dal
  • 3 tbs- grated dry coconut
  • 5- dry red chiilies
  • 1/2 tsp- black pepper
  • 1 tsp- coriander seed
  • 1/2 tsp- cumin seed
  • 6 gm- tamarind (approximately, small size ball)
  • 1 tbs- jaggery
  • 1 tsp- salt
  • 2 tsp- oil

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the curry leaves with water. Spread it on dry cloth. Let it completely dry.

  2. 2

    Take curry leaves in a pan and dry roast them on low flame till it becomes crispy. Keep aside. You can roast curry leaves in a microwave too.

  3. 3

    In same pan add chana dal, udad dal, black pepper, coriander seed, cumin seed, red chillies, grated coconut, tamarind.

  4. 4

    Roast till the lentils (dal) becomes golden brown. Switch off the gas.

  5. 5

    Add roasted curry leaves. Mix well. Let it cool down completely.add jaggery and salt.

    Grind it coarsely. Chutney powder is ready. You can eat it with idly, dosa and rice with ghee.

Wonder why many don't understand the measurement system. It should be in grand not cup. In general 1 cup means 250 grams. If you use only 5-6 chillies, it's of no use. Better mention 1 cup equal what weight in this explanation.
