Mirin is a sweetened Japanese's Sake sometimes available in supermarkets but if not you should be able to get it from an Asian store the carries Japanese products., If you can't find it you can use a medium sweet sherry instead. Note: to make the ginger juice in this recipe simply peel and grate a knob of root ginger and squeeze out the liquid. If you make this dish please take a photo and post together with recipe. Ingredients

  1. 1 tbspoil
  2. 4 tbspsoy sauce
  3. 2 tbspMiran or medium sherry
  4. 1 teaspoonsoft light brown sugar
  5. 1 tbspginger juice
  6. 1garlic clove of crushed
  7. 850 grump steak, about 2.5 cm (1 inch) thick, in one piece if possible
  8. Sansho pepper (also available in Asian stores, or use a flavoured pepper if you can find one
  9. 1daikon, radish peeled (available in Japanese storesit is a Japanese white radish
  10. 2 tbspwere savvy pace
  11. Fresh coriander sprigs to garnish

Steps

  1. 1

    Mix the oil, soy sauce, Maryknoll Cheri, sugar, ginger juice and garlic in a large shallow dish.

  2. 2

    Add the steak and turn to coat both sides.

  3. 3

    Leave in a cool place to marinate for at least 4 hours turning from time to time

  4. 4

    Preheat a grill or ridged cast-iron grill pan and grill the steak for 3 to 5 minutes on each side season with the sansho pepper

  5. 5

    To prepare the Japanese-style garnish, great the daikon radish and squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Place a little pile of grated daikon, a desert spoon of wasab paste, and coriander sprigs on each of 4 plates

  6. 6

    With a sharp knife, slice the steak into thin diagonal slices and arrange on the plates with a garnish
