Mixed Meat, Ham, and Cheese Lasagna
An absolutely delicious recipe that my mother-in-law always asks me to make! It's easy to prepare, and you'll see that you'll be the star of the kitchen.
Steps
- 1
Prepare the ground beef (I used beef chuck and ground it in a food processor). Chop the vegetables (I also used the food processor, but you can chop them by hand if you prefer).
- 2
Heat the oil in a pan, brown the ground beef, then add the vegetables. Cook well until most of the liquid has evaporated.
- 3
Add the canned tomatoes and heavy cream, season with salt, and cook for another 5 to 10 minutes. Let it rest while you prepare the other ingredients.
- 4
To make the white sauce, melt the butter over low heat. Add the cornstarch and stir—make sure the mixture is not too dry or too runny. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until it starts to thicken. The more you stir over the heat, the thicker it will get, so stop when it reaches your desired consistency. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste.
- 5
To assemble the lasagna, fill a dish with boiling water and soak the lasagna noodles for 2 to 3 minutes to soften them, making sure they don't stick together. At the same time, spread a layer of white sauce on the bottom of your baking dish.
- 6
Add your first layer of softened lasagna noodles, then another layer of white sauce, followed by half of the meat sauce.
- 7
Add another layer of white sauce, then a layer of sliced cheese, spreading it evenly. Add a second layer of softened lasagna noodles, then another layer of white sauce.
- 8
Add a layer of sandwich cheese, then a layer of ham, followed by another layer of white sauce and your third and final layer of softened lasagna noodles.
- 9
Add another layer of white sauce, the remaining half of the meat sauce, and a final layer of white sauce if you have any left.
- 10
Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the top and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) until the cheese is golden brown.
- 11
Serve with a side salad of lettuce, cabbage, or rice. Enjoy!
