Ingredients

20 mins
  • 1medium sized brinjal cut into cubes
  • 6-8dried lentil dumplings (bodi,badi,mongode)
  • For onion paste:
  • 1big sized onion
  • 1/2 tspcumin seeds
  • 6-8peppercorns
  • 3-4 clovesgarlic
  • To tastesalt
  • 1/2 tspred chillli powder
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 1/4 tspcoriander powder
  • As required oil
  • 1/4 tspfive spices(fenugreek, mustard,fennel,nigella,cumin)
  • Handfulfresh green peas
  • leavesSome coriander
  • 1-2chopped green chillies

Steps

  1. 1

    Cut brinjal and keep aside

    Soak lentil dumplings (baadi)in water for 5-10 mins

    Make a paste of onion,garlic, cumin seeds and peppercorns.

    Heat oil in a kadhai/pan.Add five spices and let it crackle

    Now add the masala and keep stirring for 1-2 mins,then add turmeric powder,red chillli powder,salt and mix the masalas nicely until the raw smell goes away.

    Now add the dumplings in the masala and let it cook for 4-5 mins on low flame.

    Remove the dumplings and then add brinjal in the same masala,lower the flame and let it cook for 4-5 mins.

    Add peas and little water and wait for the brinjal to cook properly.You can check with a knife.Then add chopped green chillies and coriander leaves.Serve hot with steamed rice.
