Moru Curry is Kerala Style seasoned buttermilk which is served as a part of Onam Sadya. It is very easy and quick to make.

I learnt to make this curd curry from my Mom-in-law. Thanks to her that till today I enjoy making it for my family. My daughter just loves it. She can have it almost everyday.

Ingredients

  1. 200 gmsCurd
  2. 2Sambar Onions (Finely Chopped)
  3. 2Green Chillies (Finely Chopped)
  4. 1/2" Ginger (Finely Chopped)
  5. 2 ClovesGarlic (Finely Chopped)
  6. 1 SprigCurry Leaves
  7. 2 tbspCoconut Oil
  8. 1/2 tspMustard Seeds
  9. 1/4 tspCumin Seeds
  10. 1 pinchAsafoetida Pinch
  11. 1/4 tspTurmeric Powder
  12. 1/4 tspMethi/Fenugreek Powder
  13. 1/4 tspCumin Powder
  14. 1/4 tspKashmiri Chilli Powder
  15. 2Dry Red Chillies (Optional)
  16. As required Salt
  17. As required Water

Steps

  1. 1

    In a small cooking vessel, add curd and whisk it well. Add water and whisk till lots of foam appear at the top. Keep aside.

  2. 2

    In a tadka pan, heat oil. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, (add dry red chillies, if you want).

  3. 3

    Add ginger, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves and fry for a minute.

  4. 4

    Add sambar onions and fry till the onions are slightly brown.

  5. 5

    Add turmeric powder, methi powder and cumin powder and fry for few seconds. Add chilli powder and switch off the heat.

  6. 6

    Add the tadka to the whisked curd and mix well.

  7. 7

    Switch on the heat and cook the curry on low heat, stirring continuously, till it becomes hot. Don't let it come to a boil. Switch off the heat.

  8. 8

    Serve moru curry with steamed rice.
