Ingredients

  • For suji balls:
  • 1 cupsemolina (sooji or rava), roasted
  • 1green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 inchpiece of ginger, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp.Oil
  • 2.5 cupswater
  • 1/2 tspSalt
  • 1/3 cupgrated coconut
  • For tempering:
  • 3 tspOil
  • 1 tspMustard seeds
  • 1/2 tspcumin seeds (jeera seeds)
  • 1/2 tspBengal gram (chana dal)
  • 1/2 tspBlack gram dal (urad dal)
  • 5cashews (10 halves)
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1dry red chilli
  • 1/4 tspTurmeric (haldi powder)
  • 1/4 tspKashmiri chilli powder
  • 1/4 tspSalt
  • 2 tbspCoriander leaves (kothmir)
  • 2 tspLemon juice

Steps

  1. 1

    In a kadhai, heat 2 tsp Oil. Sauté chopped chilli and ginger.

  2. 2

    Pour in 2.5 cups water.

  3. 3

    Add 1/2 tsp salt and 1/3 cup grated coconut. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Allow the water to boil rapidly.

  5. 5

    Lower the flame, and add roasted rava little by little, stirring continuously.

  6. 6

    Cover and cook for 3 mins or until the rava turns soft and fluffy.

  7. 7

    Knead the dough for 5 mins and prepare small balls. Steam for 10 mins.

    Take a Kadhai, heat 3 tsp oil. Add tempering ingredients.

    Add 1/4 tsp. Each of turmeric, chilli powder and salt.

  10. 10

    Now lightly add the steamed rava balls and mix gently.

  11. 11

    Then add the chopped coriander leaves and squeeze 2 tsp lemon juice on top.
