  • Fresh and soft maize from the shamba
  • to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Either remove the "cover" from the maize, or leave them on. Arrange them well the big ones down and the small ones on top, in a cooking pot, the pot made from clay.

  2. 2

    Add some water enough to cook the maize, sprinkle some salt and cover.

  3. 3

    Cook them till soft. Serve with a cup of black tea (add rosemary, cardamon and lemon grass to taste) called Sturungi aka Strong tea. After munching all the maize seeds, please remember to suck all the salty water from the maize cob before you throw it away...😆😆😆. Enjoy!

I normally cook sweetcorn for about 10 mins, but I was given a meilie (not sweetcorn) by a friend who had bought it on the side of the road from a vendor. It's been cooking in a pot of boiling water for 3 HOURS and it's still hard. How long is this supposed to take?
