Ingredients

20 minutes
4 persons
  1. 150 gpoha/ chiwda/ chuda
  2. 30 mloil
  3. 1/2 tspmustard seeds
  4. 1/2 tspcumin seeds
  5. 1 tspchana dal
  6. 1 tspgota urad dal
  7. leavesFew curry
  8. 1-2fresh green chillies
  9. as requiredpeanuts
  10. 1/2 tspgrated ginger
  11. 1chopped onion
  12. 1small chopped potato
  13. as per tasteSalt
  14. 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  15. as per tasteRed chili powder
  16. 1 tspcoriander powder
  17. 1/2 tspsugar
  18. as needed Juice of half lemon
  19. as requiredchopped coriander leaves
  20. as required Accompaniments is hot tea
  21. As neededand farsan/ mixture

Cooking Instructions

    Start by washing and then soaking chiwda(chuda) for 5 minutes in plain water.
    Drain the extra water and keep aside. Next place a pan.
    Heat oil, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds.Add chana dal, urad dal and peanuts. Add fresh curry leaves, grated ginger and fresh green chillies. Saute.
    Next add chopped onion. Saute till it becomes brownish.

    Add salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, sugar and mix.
    Add chopped potatoes. Mix. Cover and cook the potatoes.

    As potatoes are cooked, open cook for 2-3 minutes.

    Next add the chuda(chiwda). Put 1/4 th cup water and mix all very gently.

    Keep the flame slow. Add chopped coriander leaves, squeeze lemon juice and give a nice mix.

    Chiwda upma (chuda upma) is ready to serve hot.. Garnish with some more coriander leaves.
    Serve with farsan and chai..
