Mutton Dalcha - Hyderabadi style Mutton Dalcha - Hyderabadi style
#reststyle - This is a very popular and a delicious Mutton Curry served in many Hyderabadi restaurants. It is often had as a side dish with plain kuska biryani. It also tastes awesome with naan, tandoori roti or steamed rice. In this recipe, Mutton is cooked with chana dal, bottle gourd, potato and eggplants. It tastes both - tangy and spicy. A tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chilli powder in ghee is poured over the final product. Bethica Das -
Amma ka Daal (Mom's Lentil Recipe) Amma ka Daal (Mom's Lentil Recipe)
My ultimate comfort food is cumin rice (Jeera Chawal) with this dal. This is my mom's recipe, so truly meri maa ki dal. It's a very simple recipe with very basic ingredients. The best part of this dish is that the spice mix can be made in bulk and frozen for use later. I don’t encourage it but as our days get busy this may be a great time saver. There is an interesting story behind this humble staple dish on our table. For many years, we could never get my mom’s taste in our dal. During one of my mom’s cooking sessions, my wife and I shadowed her like understudys, noting every detail of her cooking to the minutest details. Our dal would never get her taste. Then we realized that one of the key ingredients that gave this dish a unique velvety satisfying flavor is ‘smoked ghee tadka laced with cumin”. Be kind and don’t skimp on this step if you really want to get the flavor right. Anmen -
Vendhaya keerai kootu recipe, fenugreek leaves kootu Vendhaya keerai kootu recipe, fenugreek leaves kootu
Vendhaya keerai or fenugreek leaves (methi leaves) with moong dal in South Indian way. No bitterness will be felt in this kootu. I have been thinking kootu will be bitter and avoided making it. This is the first time I am making this south Indian style kootu, though I have made methi dal north Indian way couple of times. After making vendhaya keerai sambar, I found it won't be bitter. So I picked fresh leaves from balcony( homegrown). SaranyaSenthil -

Mitha Dali Mitha Dali
#colouryellowMy mother some times cook Mitha Dali ("Sweet Dal"), since we all are not fond of dal so much therefore I always try to make different and innovative dishes based on dal. Today I have shared her recipe, wherein various ingredients such as ginger, cumin seeds, sugar, and ghee are used. You may alternatively add jaggery instead of sugar. This is my favourite dal, and we all love this dal very much. Sushree Satapathy -

Lasooni dal |Lehsuni dal | Dal lasooni | Garlic dal tadka is a very versatile dal in terms of the lentil that can be used in it. One can choose to use toor dal, moong dal or masoor dal. There are multiple ways to make this dal, each one a little bit varied than the other. Only thing constant in this is the seasoning of garlic!.Today morning while making lunch for hubby, I wanted to make a dal to go with steamed rice and realised that there was only one sad looking tomato left in the basket which wouldn't be sufficient. So, this lasooni dal was perfect because it doesn't require a whole lot of ingredients and adds a delicious variation to the everyday dal..Sharing here a quick and easy recipe for dal lasooni.
