Ingredients

30 - 40 minutes
4 servings
  1. 1 cupMoong Dal
  2. 2 cupMilk
  3. 1 cuphot Water
  4. 1 cupSugar
  5. 1 cupGhee
  6. Dry fruits
  7. 1/2 tspCardamom powder
  8. strandsFew Saffron

Cooking Instructions

30 - 40 minutes

    Soak Moong Dal for 4-5 hours and then drain off excess water.

    Assemble all ingredients

    Grind to smooth paste or can be kept bit coarse.
    Add 1 tbsp ghee in moderately heated pan / kadhai, roast cashews + melon seeds to golden brown and keep aside.

    In same pan / kadhai, add ghee, then gradually add Moong Dal and keep stirring. At first it will be lumpy.

    Gradually lumps will break by continuously stirring under low flame.

    Roast till till you get the nutty aroma after Dal is fully roasted, then add milk + saffron milk and stir well for 3-4 minutes. Then add water + cardamom powder and stir well till water evaporates. Lastly add 2-3 tbsp ghee + sugar + dry fruits and mix well.
    Simmer for 4-5 minutes till water from sugar evaporates and ghee is seen on surface.

    Halwa is ready.

    Transfer to serving dish and garnish with roasted cashews or almonds.

    Enjoy this winter delicacy to the fullest.
