Ingredients

  1. 1 cupPoha (Flattened Rice)
  2. 2 tbspCooking Oil (Or as required)
  3. 1/2 tspMustard Seeds
  4. 1/2 tspCumin Seeds
  5. pinchAsafoetida
  6. 1 tbspChana Dal
  7. 1 tbspUrad Dal
  8. 1Onion (Finely Chopped)
  9. 3Long Green Chillies
  10. 1 SprigCurry Leaves
  11. 1/4 tspTurmeric Powder
  12. 1/2 tspCumin Powder
  13. As per taste Salt
  14. 1 tbspLemon Juice
  15. 1 tspSugar

Cooking Instructions

    Wash the poha and drain the water well. Add salt and mix it. Set aside and allow it to soften.

    Keep all the ingredients ready.

  3. 3

    Heat oil in a tadka pan. Add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Add chana dal and urad dal and let it fry. Add green chillies and curry leaves and saute.

    Transfer this to a pan. Add onions and saute till the onions are translucent.

  5. 5

    Add turmeric powder, cumin powder and salt and saute for a minute. Note that salt was already added to the poha. So add accordingly.

    Add the soaked poha and mix well.

  7. 7

    Add a tablespoon of water and cover the pan with a lid and allow the poha to cook on low flame for about 4-5 minutes.

    Add lemon juice and sugar and mix well.

  9. 9

    Serve immediately with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
