A very famous South Indian dish. Whenever South Indian food comes to our mind, we just think of Idli, dosa, rasam, sambar vada etc etc. But other than these we really have some declious dishes in South Indian Cusine. This is one of them. It is a complete meal in itself. A spicy and tangy pulao, easy to make a very good options for tiffin. The use of masala may change from region to region. Somewhere they use coconut or coconut milk whereas some a dry masala of coriander, poppyseeds and dried red chiles. Also you can make it with cooked rice or cook the rice in the masala. I have made it with pre cooked rice

Cooking Instructions

In a pan add ghee then add the mustard seeds, chana and urd dal, kaju and dry red Chile and hing.. Saute it. Then add the chopped onion. Saute it. Then add the curry leaves and green Chile. Saute it till pink.

Then add the ginger and garlic paste. Saute it. Then add the chopped tomatoes and add little salt. Let the tomatoes cook. Then add turmeric and red Chile powder and kashmiri red Chile powder. Cover and let it cook till all the tomatoes gets smashed and cooked and oil starts leaving sides

Then add the coconut milk, sugar and salt. Let it cook for 5-7 min. Now add the rice.

Now add chopped coriander leaves. Mix them well. Serve it with raita.
