American-Style Cookies in 20 Minutes

I wanted to make easy American-style cookies, so tried playing around with my Grandma's recipe.
The cookies may seem too soft when you take them out of the oven, but this is what makes them so delicious! If you find yourself thinking 'hm, these still seem a bit undercooked', that's when you should take them out – you'll see what I mean once they cool down (takes about 10 minutes). Cooking Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C/375F. In a bowl, beat the butter until pale.
- 2
Add both sugars to the bowl.
- 3
Add the egg and a few drops of vanilla essence.
- 4
Add the baking powder and salt.
- 5
Add flour in two batches. There's no need to sift the flour.
- 6
Add the chocolate chips. Using a spoon, drop the dough onto a baking sheet (do not flatten out after dropping).
- 7
Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes at 180-185°C (375F for American ovens.) If you like your cookies crispy, up to 15 minutes should be fine.
- 8
They should puff up like this after about 8 minutes. When removed from the oven, they will shrink and become nice and chewy with a soft texture.

Although I'm here in Japan, I wanted to have those moist and sweet cookies I had in the States!! But butter is so pricey in Japan. Plus it's high in calories. So I decided to make healthy cookies with olive oil.The cookies are soft right out of the oven, but don't worry, they are not raw. Take them out of the oven once the edges of the cookies have slightly browned. Try various toppings such as oatmeal, nuts, or chocolate Check the consistency of dough and adjust the amount of toppings to preference. It's fine as long as the dough comes together when squeezed. American-style chocolate chip cookies that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The key is to press down the center ❤︎Background of this recipeAmerican cookies are soft and delicious, but when you buy them at the store, they often have a thick, undercooked center, which I don't like. I created this recipe with the image of Country Ma'am cookies in mind. American recipes usually use twice the sugar (including granulated sugar), but this amount is sweet and delicious enough ❤ LazyHataTranslated from Cookpad Japan -

The chocolate flavour is so rich that I decided to half the amount made. They may look like ice box cookies, but this cookie dough only contains 30 g butter. Be careful not to add too much egg. Of course you can still make these cookies deliciously the normal way by creaming the butter and sugar, adding the egg, and folding in the flour. Feel free to cut the dough out with cutters too.
