Anko Red Bean Paste in a Rice Cooker Anko Red Bean Paste in a Rice Cooker
I wanted to keep this recipe a secret, but I also want to share the love of Japanese confectionery to you all.The rum is optional, but it will enrich the flavor and is better than anko that I always keep stocked in the refrigerator. You will hardly smell the rum in this anko if you use this recipe, but anko with the aroma of rum is exquisite as well. Add the rum after you turn off the heat to enjoy its aroma if you'd like. Soft Shiratama (Sticky Rice Ball) with Brown Sugar Syrup Soft Shiratama (Sticky Rice Ball) with Brown Sugar Syrup
The Asian grocery nearby closed down *sobs* so I made traditional Japanese sweets out of things I could buy at the local supermarket (like Coles). This is my first time to actually measure the ingredients because I usually eyeball them. Add water to the glutinous rice flour in small batches, and add more flour if it's too runny. This way, you'd never make mistakes even if you don't measure anything. Recipe by peloli cookpad.japan -

Make Mitarashi Dango Dumplings with Mashed Leftover Rice Make Mitarashi Dango Dumplings with Mashed Leftover Rice
I saw a comedian making dango on TV and got some hints from that and made this recipe.I thought that maybe my 2-year-old and 10-month-old year old daughter could help me making this while having fun so I put the rice in a plastic bag. This made it much easier to make the dango than grinding the rice in a mortar. By putting the rice in a plastic bag, I was able to play with my child while making the dango. My daughter helped me a little bit too.Mash the rice until they lose shape. You can also enjoy this dango coated in kinako powder or with azuki bean paste instead of mitarashi sauce. Rice Flour Mitarashi Dango Rice Flour Mitarashi Dango
I came up with this recipe as a way to use up rice flour. I'm always in the mood for mitarashi dango, so I prepped these easily in the microwave.I was able to make about 15 dumplings the size of a ping-pong ball. These dumplings also taste great grilled after boiling. Recipe by chiroemi cookpad.japan -
Filipino Food Series: Lola Sayong’s Suman w/ Coconut Jam (Traditional Glutinous Rice Cake) Filipino Food Series: Lola Sayong’s Suman w/ Coconut Jam (Traditional Glutinous Rice Cake)
Trivia: Suman is a Filipino traditional rice cake that’s usually eaten during breakfast or afternoon snack paired with coconut jam, cocoa chocolate and coffee! This recipe was from my Lola’s (grandmother). She used to cook and sell this around our community when she was still alive. She literally did all the hard work from getting banana leaves, running them over fire to make the leaves soft, wrapping ( the most tedious process for me) cooking to selling. Hats off to my grandmother! ❤️ Ynielle’s Kitchen Diaries -

How to Make Delicious White Rice--In a Pot How to Make Delicious White Rice--In a Pot
My sister recommended I use a bunka nabe (a Japanese deep pot with a tight-fitting lid used for cooking rice), so I bought one as part of my trousseau! Living overseas, I can now make fairly tasty rice, even with poor grade rice. For those who are unsatisfied with the electric cookers sold abroad, try this recipe. My bunka nabe can cook 2.5 rice cooker cups (16 cm diameter).Use a pot size that suits your needs. For leftover rice, thinly wrap in plastic wrap, and once it cools, store in the freezer. After cooking, soak the pot with water for easy clean-up!
