Deep-Fried Tofu in Sauce with Atsuage

I used to make this with firm tofu, but then I started thinking that using atsuage would be easier.
Since you don't need to drain the tofu or coat it with katakuriko, this method is so much more fun!

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 2Atsuage (10 x 10 cm)
  2. 1 dashVegetable oil (for cooking)
  3. 1Grated daikon radish
  4. 1Green onions (chopped)
  5. Sauce
  6. 100 mlWater
  7. 2 tbspMentsuyu (3x concentrate)
  8. 2 1/2 tbspMirin
  9. 1/4 tspDashi stock granules

Cooking Instructions

    (Make the sauce) Put all of the sauce ingredients into a heat-resistant container and microwave for 1.5 minutes at 600 W.

    You could also put the ingredients into a pot and bring to a boil.

    Cut the atsuage into bite-sized pieces.

  4. 4

    Heat the frying pan and then add the vegetable oil. Put in the atsuage and fry both sides. (if you cover with a lid, they'll plump up).

    Place the atsuage from Step 4 onto a dish and top with the well-strained grated daikon radish. Then pour on the sauce from Step 1 and garnish with green onions.
