Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 20leaves Cabbage
  2. 200 gramsThinly sliced pork
  3. 5to 6 shakes each ● Salt and pepper
  4. 1 tbsp● Grated garlic
  5. 1Consomme stock cube
  6. 250 mlWater
  7. 1 tspor more Salt

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Remove the cabbage leaves one at a time and microwave or parboil. (Slice off the protruding part of the stalk, if desired.) Thoroughly rub the ● ingredients into the sliced pork.

  2. 2

With the base of the stalk facing towards you, place 1 slice of pork on top of the cabbage leaf. Roll 2 or 3 times, then fold in the sides and continue rolling (In our home, we don't secure the rolls with a toothpick.)

  3. 3

Arrange the rolls tightly in a pot, pour water with the dissolved consomme cube, then boil over medium heat. While boiling, remove any scum that may rise to the top, then cover with a drop lid (otoshibuta) and continue to simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with salt or other spices of your choice and serve.

  4. 4

Since the rolls are packed tightly in the pot, they will not come undone. The insides should look like this. Coat in ketchup to taste.
