My husband has a lot of work related gatherings these days, so I wanted to come up with a dish that was gentle on the stomach but still delicious. But men may still prefer crispy fried bacon, maybe?

If you add some broccoli or red bell peppers and simmer them together with the cabbage, the dish will be colorful and you can enjoy the umami of the bacon even more. For 2 servings. Recipe by JessieMom

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 250 gramsBacon
  2. 1/2Cabbage
  3. 1/3 tspSalt
  4. 1/2 tspPepper
  5. 1/2cube Soup stock cube
  6. For the steaming soup:
  7. 50 mlWater
  8. 70 mlCooking sake

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the cabbage half in half again and take out the core.

  2. 2

Peel off the leaves one by one and flatten out out. Don't worry about the edges getting ripped.

  3. 3

    Wash the leaves and drain.

  4. 4

Cut the bacon into 3 pieces.

  5. 5

Use a deep frying pan or a pot. Layer the ingredients in this order: 1. cabbage, 2. bacon (about 2 slices per layer), 3. pepper. Repeat the layers.

  6. 6

Finish off with a layer of cabbage.

  7. 7

Chop up the soup stock cube.

  8. 8

Add the salt, chopped up soup stock cube, and the steaming soup ingredients.

  9. 9

Put on a lid and cook over medium heat for 3 minute. After the liquid comes to a boil, cook over low heat for 5 minutes.

  10. 10

Transfer to a serving plate. (It will be more colorful with some parsley sprinkled on top. I didn't add any though.)
