Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 3 pounds(6 or 7 apples) tart apples, such as Macintosh or Granny Smith, peeled, cored and cut in chunks
  2. 2 tablespoonfresh lemon juice
  3. 4 tablespoonswater
  4. Optional topings: turbinado sugar, raisings, nuts, sweet spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves)

Cooking Instructions

    Place apples, lemon juice and water in a heavy saucepan and stir over medium-high heat until the mixture is bubbling. Reduce heat to low and cover. Cook, stirring often, until the apples have cooked down but still have some texture, 15 to 20 minutes.

    Remove from heat, add toppings and mix. Cover and allow to cool. Serve.
