Don't Throw Out the Outer Leaves of Lettuce!! An Easy Lettuce Dish in 3 Minutes

I make this as an appetizer when I had friends over. If you use the parts of the lettuce that have browned or are too old to use in salads, you can cut down on waste, and be kind to Mother Earth in a tasty way.

You want to retain the crispy texture of the lettuce, so work quickly during Step 4. For 2 servings. Recipe by Nekorin222

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 2 tbspOlive oil
  2. 4 cloveGarlic
  3. 60 gramsBacon
  4. 5outer leaves Lettuce
  5. 1Salt and pepper

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the garlic about 1 mm thick. Cut the bacon into large pieces. Shred the lettuce with your hands. (I forgot to do that for the lettuce in the photo...)

  2. 2

Heat olive oil in a pan and saute the garlic until golden brown. Add bacon.

  3. 3

Saute the bacon until it's making cracking and spitting sounds. (When you add the lettuce, it will stop spitting, but be careful not to burn yourself.)

  4. 4

Add lettuce, and season with salt and pepper immediately. Turn off the heat right away and serve. (Be a bit generous with the pepper and it should be just right.)
