Ingredients

30 minutes
6 servings
  1. 1 cupyellow moong dal
  2. 1 cupclarified butter
  3. 1 cupmilk
  4. 1 cupwater
  5. 1 cupsugar
  6. 1/2 tspcardamom powder
  7. 1/4 cupchopped mixed nuts

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    Take milk, water and sugar in a sauce pan and let it boil till sugar melts completely. Switch off the flame and keep it aside.

    Wash the moong dal very well and pat dry it.

    Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan on low heat.

    Add dal and roast it on low flame until golden brown.

    Once the dal turns golden brown, switch off the flame and let it cool down.

    Grind the roasted dal coarsely.

    Heat 2 tbsp ghee on low heat in the same pan and roast the chopped nuts.

    Now add the powdered dal and roast it for 2-3 minutes.

    Add in the milk and sugar mixture in 3 batches and stir quickly. Keep stirring continously until the milk mixture completely absorbed.

    Now add the remaining ghee and cardamom powder. Keep stirring.

    Stir till the halwa absorbed the ghee and then after few minutes you will see that the ghee starts oozing out from halwa, means it's done.

    Switch off the flame. Garnish with nuts and serve.
