Wash and Soak rice and gram Daal separately. Keep aside for half an hour.

Heat oil in a karahi and put cumin seeds and when cumin seeds splutter put finely chopped onions and ginger. Stir fry till golden brown colour comes. Add cardamom, cloves, black pepper and salt and red chilli.

Now add soaked rice and Daal and stir for two minutes.

Add 3 bowls of water and lower the flame. Cover with lid and cook till done.

Serve hot with Raita and papad.
