This particular Khatti Daal is made in every household in the City but i have made a slight change with my innovative idea of incorporating some Fenugreek Leaves too in it's making. Trust me friends! It is too good to resist. A fusion comfort food by me that is simple yet heavenly with a bowl of white boiled rice and pickle. Aromatic with Drumsticks and small Fenugreek Leaves, this daal will be loved by all. Serve it with any dry Chicken dish or a Vegetable of your choice, it tastes just awesome. However it tastes even more yummy with Hyderabadi Mutton Fry. This particular daal has the goodness of Sojni Ki Phalli or Drumsticks and Fenugreek leaves added to it. Lovely colour and aroma will surely tickle your tastebuds.

Ingredients

35 minutes
8 servings
  • 2 cupsDrumstick pieces or Sojni Ki Phalli
  • 2 bunchesFenugreek leaves small ones
  • 1 cupPigeon Pea Lentils
  • 1/2 cupRed Lentils
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 2 tspRed chilli powder
  • 1 tspGinger garlic paste
  • 1/2 cupTamarind soaked
  • 2 tspSalt
  • 4-5Tomatoes chopped
  • For tempering-
  • 3 tbspOil
  • 1 tbspCumin seeds
  • 4Dry Red chillies
  • 1/4 cupCurry leaves
  • 6-7Garlic cloves

Steps

    Wash and soak both the Lentils in enough drinking water for about 2 hours. Pressure cook them with tomatoes and all the spices added. Also, add half of the Curry leaves too. Add about a glass of water but not more than that. Allow the pressure to settle down before opening the lid.

    Now add the Drumsticks. You can boil them if you wish to. Cover and cook on a low heat for 10-15 minutes. After done, add the tamarind water squeezed from the soaked tamarind. Allow it to come to a rolling boil. Cook for about 5 more minutes on a medium-high. Check consistency at this stage by adding water if necessary. The consistency should be semi-thick and not too watery. Finally add Fenugreek leaves to it and also check the amount of Salt. You can add it according to your choice and liking.

    Now comes the final part of tempering, heat Oil and add Garlic cloves. Fry for a minute and add Cumin seeds, Curry leaves and Dry red chillies. The aroma of Garlic is too tempting. Add this hot tempering to the Khatti Daal. Serve it with Plain boiled rice and Hyderabadi Tala huwa Gosht. (Hyderabadi Mutton Fry).
