Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut the kunafa pastry into small pieces.
- 2
Add the powdered sugar and ghee (or unsalted butter).
- 3
Make the syrup by heating the sugar and water on the stove. Once done, add the lemon juice and let it cool. The syrup should be cold and the kunafa hot when assembling.
- 4
Prepare the custard and let it cool. (To make the custard: mix 1 cup milk with 2 tablespoons custard powder and 2 tablespoons sugar, then cook until thick.)
- 5
Grease a small baking pan with ghee or butter.
- 6
Spread half of the kunafa pastry in the pan.
- 7
Add the custard on top. The custard should be thick.
- 8
Add the remaining kunafa pastry on top and drizzle with 1 tablespoon ghee or butter.
- 9
Bake in the oven until the top is golden brown.
- 10
Pour the cold syrup over the hot kunafa, flip it onto a serving plate, and enjoy!
