Ingredients

30 min
4ish servings
  • 2-3garlic cloves
  • 2small onions, finely chopped (1 if making for 2-3)
  • 1/2 tspmethi seeds
  • 1Bay leaf
  • 2tspn finely chopped ginger
  • SplashLemon juice
  • 1 tspcumin seeds
  • 4small potatoes
  • 1heaped tspn salt
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Dry spices
  • Chilli pwder (1 heaped tsp Kashmiri chilli, or 1/2 tsp +1fresh)
  • 1level tspn turmeric
  • 1heaped tspn jeera powder
  • 1heaped tspn sugar
  • Generous sprinkling of fenugreek OR coriander at the end
  • 1/4 tspgaram masala
  • 1heaped tsp chana masala mix
  • 1dessert spoon yog (optional)

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat onions, garlic and ginger til onions soft (low heat) / brown

    Add methi seeds and bay leaf and fry for 1 min

  2. 2

    Add lemon juice, cumin seeds and salt

  3. 3

    Cut the potatoes into small pieces

  4. 4

    Once onions are brown and soft turn heat down, add a bit of water so spices dont burn. Add all the dry spices and mix

  5. 5

    Fry for 3-5min, add some water if dry. Turn into a paste

  6. 6

    Add tomatoes. Add some Puree (optional) or half -3/4 tin of chopped tomatoes. Add water if too thick.

  7. 7

    Add optional extras cream or yoghurt 1 dessert spoon

  8. 8

    Add chickpeas and potatoes, bring to the boil so bubbling and then simmer for 10-15 mins
