Ingredients

  1. 700 gmsBottle gourd wash,peel and Chopped in medium size pieces
  2. 2 tbspnchana dal(washed and soaked for at least 2hrs before)
  3. 1.5 tbspmustard seeds
  4. 3 sprigscurry leaves
  5. 1/4 cupfresh grated coconut
  6. 1marble size Jaggery
  7. 2-3green chillies
  8. 1 tspred chilli powder
  9. 1/4turmeric powder
  10. Pinchasafoetida
  11. 1 tbspurad dal
  12. 1/4 cupwater
  13. 1 tbspcoconut oil
  14. to taste Salt

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    In a pressure cooker,add d bottle gourd along with the soaked chana dal and add 1/4th cup of water(as gourd releases its own water too) and take 1-2whistle.,and keep aside to cool.(after cooling check the dal once have been cooked or not)
    (do not add plenty of water otherwise the gourd will become mushy)so add accordingly.

    In a mixie jar,add grated coconut,1/2tsp mustard seeds, Jaggery,red chilli powder and salt and make a coarse paste.(do not add water while grinding)

    Heat a wok,add coconut oil or any cooking oil.,add mustard seeds,let it splutter,add urad dal,green chillies,curry leaves,pinch of asafoetida, turmeric powder and saute on low flame for some second.

    Add the coarse paste and saute on sim flame for 3-4mins.

    Add the pressure cooked gourd +chana dal in it(do not add d whole water to it) add as much of water as u prefer for ur curry or make it bit dry (whichever you may prefer)

    Add salt and Mix well. Close the wok with a lid for 5-7mins.
    Your bottle gourd sabzi is ready to serve with phulkas,chapati or steamed rice.

    Note;-This sabzi is not dry,it's bit wet sabzi,if you wanna increase some curry dein add d strained water near about 2tbspn to d curry.
