This is a classic french dessert. When I was a teen my parents took us to France to visit, my oldest brother, who had gone over to visit his high school exchange student girlfriend after finishing college. He ended up staying and attending medical school there so we went to visit. His girlfriend had a muti course dinner for us and this was the amazing dessert. It was so beautiful and different, light crisp with chewy center middle meringues floating in a creamy vanilla custard sauce with drizzles of caramel and chocolate.
