Kimchi Shiso Onigiri (Rice Balls)

Since Kimchi goes so well with BBQ, I created this onigiri recipe.

These were a hit with my friends. They ate them all up so fast, we wished we had more.

★ If the rice clumps while you're stir-frying it, use a rice paddle to mix it gently with a cutting motion so the grains of rice don't break.

★ These are even more delicious if you char the rice a little bit. This makes the onigiri deliciously fragrant, like yaki-onigiri (grilled rice balls). Recipe by Mizorecchifan

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 360 mlUncooked white rice
  2. 300 gramsKimchi
  3. 20leaves Shiso leaves
  4. 1Roasted sesame seeds
  5. Flavoring ingredients:
  6. 1 tbspSugar
  7. 1 dashSesame oil

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the rice, add it to the rice cooker, and turn it on ♪

  2. 2

    Thinly slice the kimchi and shiso leaves.

    Add the kimchi to a frying pan and stir-fry (adding oil is unnecessary). When it's heated through, add the sugar and stir-fry.

    Add the cooked rice and stir-fry (use a rice paddle to mix the rice with a cutting motion to avoid breaking the grains of rice).

    Turn off the heat. Add the shiso leaves, roasted sesame seeds, and sesame oil and mix with the rice.

    Stir well and then shape into rice balls of any shape you like. All done.
