Ingredients

30 minutes
  • 1 cuptoover dal
  • 1onion chopped
  • 2brinjals, cubed
  • 1drumstick, cut into 2 peices
  • 1potato cube
  • 1tomato, chopped
  • 1 tablespoontamarind pulp
  • as per tasteSalt
  • For sambhar Masala paste
  • 4-6whole dry kashmiri red chillies broken into two peices
  • 1 tablespooncoriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoonfenugreek seeds
  • 1 tablespoontoover dal
  • 1 tablespoonChana dal
  • 1 tablespoonurad dal
  • 1 tablespoonturmeric powder
  • 1/2 tablespoonasafoetida
  • As requiredFor the tempering:-
  • 1 tablespoonmustard seeds
  • 6curry leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoonasafoetida
  • 1 teaspoonoil

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    For sambhar Masala paste.

    Roast all the ingredients in a non-stick pan for 4-5 minutes. Allow to coll temperature.

  3. 3

    Grind to a fine paste in a blender using a little water. Keep aside.

    Then clean and wash the toover dal.

  5. 5

    Pressure cook the dal, onion, brinjals, drumstick, and potato with 2 cups of water.

  6. 6

    Then add the tomato, tamarind, pulp, sambhar masala paste, salt, and 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.

  7. 7

    Prepare the tempting by heating the oil in a nonstick pan and frying the mustard seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida until the mustard seeds crackle.

  8. 8

    And the sambhar and simmer for 10 minutes.

  9. 9

    Serve hot.
