I learned this from my mother.
If you are strapped for time, soak the chestnuts in lukewarm water. Refresh the water before boiling. Small chestnuts should take about 40 minutes and large chestnuts 50 minutes. Stir occasionally. Recipe by Yuuyuu0221

Steps
- 1
Wash the chestnuts and soak them for about half a day. Boil water in a pot and add salt. Place the chestnuts in the pot and bring to a boil.
- 2
Once the water comes to a boil, set to low heat and simmer the chestnuts for 40-50 minutes. Once they finish boiling, let them sit in the pot until the water cools.
- 3
Cut the chestnuts in half with a knife and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.
