Onion pakoda are basically onion fritters made with gram flour (besan). You can even make these with chickpea flour. Onion Pakoda are a popular Indian street food as well.

Ingredients

  1. 2onions (thinly sliced)
  2. 1 inchginger (finely chopped)
  3. 2green chilli (finely chopped)
  4. as required few curry leaves (chopped)
  5. 2 tbspcoriander leaves (finely chopped)
  6. 1/4 tspturmeric / haldi
  7. 1/2 tspkashmiri red chilli
  8. pinchhing / asafoetida
  9. 1/4 tspajwain / caraway seeds
  10. 1 cupbesan / gram flour
  11. 2 tbsprice flour
  12. 1/2 tspsalt
  13. as required oil for deep frying

Cooking Instructions

    Firstly, in a large mixing bowl take 2 thinly sliced onions.

    Also add 1 inch ginger, 2 green chilli, few curry leaves, 2 tbsp coriander leaves, ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, ¼ tsp ajwain and pinch of hing.

    Additionally, add 1 cup besan, 2 tbsp rice flour and ½ tsp salt.

    Combine well making sure to squeeze onions well.

  5. 5

    Without adding any water squeeze out the onions till the moisture is released.

  6. 6

    Combine till dough is formed. if onions do not release water, then sprinkle few drops of water.

  7. 7

    Take a ball sized pakoda dough and drop in hot oil. do not over crowd the oil as it wont get crispy.

    Fry on medium flame till the pakore turns crispy and golden brown.

    Finally, drain over kitchen paper and serve onion pakore with tomato sauce or green chutney, salad or with red tea.
