A cheap and simple recipe that can feed up to six people.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Rinse with clean water once. Dispose husks and those rotten ones.
- 2
Prepare a pot of boiling water. Blanch bean sprouts for just one second. Remove from pot to stop overcooking.
- 3
Blanch the uncut fish cake in the hot boiling water for 5 seconds just to clean away the oily surface and reduce also fish smell. Remove from the pot. Cut into thick slices.
- 4
Blanch the uncut fried tofu puff in the hot boiling water for 10 seconds to clean away the oily surface. Remove from the pot. Cut into bite size.
- 5
Heat up cooking oil in frying pan with medium heat. Fry the chopped garlic until aromatic.
- 6
Add in the sliced fish cake. Stir fry until fish cake slightly browned.
- 7
Add in the cut fried tofu puff. Add about 100ml water. Mix evenly.
- 8
Add about one and a half tablespoon sambal chilli sauce (any type can do). Mix evenly. Note: Adding more will upgrade the spiciness to hellish level. No joke.

Cabbage with carrot and fish cake Cabbage with carrot and fish cake
This is a refined technique of Chinese "oily stir fry vegetable" which I slightly modified for modern frying pan. Why I used cabbage. It's cheap (one whole cabbage cost $2), it's resistant to overcooking (as long you keep stirring and used medium heat), it's taste sweet and delicious after properly cooked (you may not need to eat rice).
