Steps
- 1
Wash the dals/ lentils put it in a pot / kadai, add enough water, boil and cook along with all ingredients except salt. After 10-15 minutes of boiling, add the salt and cook further. Add hot water as and when needed to cook and to make the Dal of your desired consistency. It may take about 30-40 minutes or more to cook the Dal mushy depending on quality of the Dal and water of the place where you live. Blend it with the hand wooden blender/ Dal Ghotni.
- 2
Once the Dal is ready. Heat ghee in a pan, add the red dry Chilli and Cummin seeds, once it starts crackling add the chopped onion and once it starts becomes Pinkish, add garlic and green onion, once the onion and garlic gets the nutty brown color, add it to the prepared Dal. Put some Dal on the tempering pan also and again put it back to the Dal (pot), it will get more flavour and close the Dal with a lid so that it retains the aroma of the tempering. Serve hot with rice or roti !
