  • 1 cupWhole Black lentils(Urad dal)
  • 1/2 cupKidney beans
  • as neededWater
  • 1/2 tspSalt
  • For Gravy
  • 2 tbspButter
  • 1Bay leaf
  • 1/2 tspTurmeric powder
  • 1 tspRed Chilli powder
  • 1 tspGaram masala powder
  • 1Tomato
  • 1Big Onion
  • 1 tspGarlic ginger paste
  • 1/2 tspSalt
  • 2Green Cardamom
  • 1Cinnamon stick
  • 2 tbspFresh cream
  • 2 tspCoriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tspKasuri methi
  • 1/2 tspchaat masala

Steps

    Soak whole black lentils and kidney beans in sufficient water for 8 hours.

    In a pressure cooker, add the soaked whole black lentils, kidney beans, 2 cup water, 1/2 tsp salt and mix well.

    Bring it to a boil for 3-4 whistle or till becomes soft.

    Mash it with a ladle.

    Cut onion and tomato finely.

    Heat butter in a pan and add whole garam masalas.

    Add chopped onions and fry till translucent.

    Add ginger garlic paste and stir well.

    Now, add chopped tomato and saute till soft and pulpy.

    Add turmeric powder, chilli powder and garam masala powder.

    Mix all well and cook for 1-2 minutes.

    Now, add the cooked dal and salt in it and mix well.

    Add some water, cover it and cook for 15 minutes on low heat.

    Cook till it becomes dry and add chat masala.

    Now add kasuri methi, coriander leaves and fresh cream, switch off the heat.

    Serve hot dhaba style dal makhani with butter naan and salad.
