Tuna onigiri are delicious, but have you noticed that the oil sometimes seeps out over time?

Here’s a magic trick for making fluffy tuna! This recipe was passed down to me by my mom, who insists she invented tuna onigiri!

Steps

  1. 1

For this recipe, I used the cheapest canned tuna I found at the grocery store.

  2. 2

Scoop the tuna into a bowl or onto a plate.

You can drain the oil or leave it in—either way works!

  3. 3

Mix the tuna thoroughly with chopsticks or a small whisk until it no longer looks oily.

That’s the key! Now the oil won’t seep out.

  4. 4

Add mayonnaise to taste (I use 1 tablespoon).

(I also like to add a little dashi soy sauce and a pinch of chili pepper here.)

  5. 5

Fill your onigiri with plenty of tuna, shape as usual, and enjoy!

    All done!
