Curry Bread (Kare Pan)

Homemade fried curry bread is truly special! My whole family loves it. I use a bread machine for the dough, and I’ve included step-by-step photos for the entire process. Recipe origin: For my son, who loves curry bread.

Homemade fried curry bread is truly special! My whole family loves it. I use a bread machine for the dough, and I’ve included step-by-step photos for the entire process. Recipe origin: For my son, who loves curry bread.
Steps
- 1
While the bread machine kneads the dough, make the curry filling. Sift the all-purpose flour over the curry and add it in.
- 2
Mix and heat the curry until it thickens, then remove from heat and let it cool.
- 3
Divide the filling into about 9 portions.
- 4
When the dough is ready, take it out of the bread machine, divide into 9 pieces (about 50g each), shape into balls, and let rest for 10 minutes.
- 5
Flatten each ball by hand, then place a portion of curry filling in the center. (Use as little flour for dusting as possible.)
- 6
Fold the dough in half and seal the edges tightly.
- 7
Place each piece seam-side down on parchment paper.
- 8
Brush each side with beaten egg and coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- 9
Let rise at room temperature for about 20 minutes.
- 10
Fry in oil at 340°F (170°C) for about 1 1/2 minutes, then flip. Continue frying, turning occasionally, until both sides are golden brown.
- 11
Drain excess oil and serve.
