A South Indian rice & dal dish served as a one pot meal is of Kannada origin . It is usually served with a dollop of ghee on top & has a lot of fried cashews in it . One can say that lentil rice is loaded with ghee . It is sometimes made with leftover sambhar. And sometimes made with freshly made sambhar cooked with rice & spices .

Steps

In a pressure cooker take ghee & fry the cashews. Remove. Keep aside. Add leftover sambhar, add washed & soaked rice in the pressure cooker. Add 1/2 of fried cashews also. Add 1/2 cup soaked water.

Add all the dry spices & salt. Mix. Close the pressure cooker & take 3 whistles. Wait for pressure to release & then open the pressure cooker.

Tempering : Take ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds & let them splutter. Add curry leaves & cashews. Fry cashews till golden. Switch off the flame. Remove the cashews & mix half of them in the cooked rice. Add asafoetida in ghee & mix this in the rice.

Take Bisi Bele in a serving plate. Top it up with remaining cashews & pour ghee on top of hot Bisi Bele. Garnish with fried rice papads & serve immediately.
