Cook 1/4 cup (50 g) sugar until it turns a deep amber color, then add a splash of water and a little lemon juice. Swirl to coat the bottom of the mold.

Warm the milk with the sweetened condensed milk and remaining sugar. Add vanilla. Beat the eggs until smooth, strain through a sieve, then slowly add the warm milk mixture while stirring. Strain again and return to the pot.

Heat the egg mixture while stirring until it thickens slightly. Add the softened gelatin and cook for 1-2 more minutes. Pour into the caramel-lined mold. Refrigerate overnight or at least 8 hours. Serve chilled.
