Perilla Leaf Drink with Rock Sugar

Week 21: Traditional Folk Remedy
For a long time, I’ve heard that drinking perilla leaf tea can help with weight loss and may inhibit tyrosinase and melanin production, leading to brighter, more radiant skin.
We have an abundance of perilla growing at home, and with the hot weather, the leaves were starting to wilt. So I decided to harvest them all and make a refreshing drink. I also added cordyceps and bird’s nest to help boost respiratory immunity during the hot season.

Pick and wash the perilla leaves thoroughly, then let them dry.

Bring the filtered water to a boil in a pot. Add the perilla leaves and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Clean the bird’s nest and steam it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Let the perilla simmer for a few minutes, then remove the leaves. Add the rock sugar and stir until dissolved, then turn off the heat.

Add the cordyceps, then the bird’s nest.

Pour into a cup and serve warm. This drink is great for supporting lung health and cooling the liver.
