Ukadiche Modak (Ganesh Chaturthi Special)

Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without Modaks. Ukadachi Modak or a Fried Modak..Both are scrumptious in their very own way. Today I made Ukadachi Modak, a classic sweet..offered to Lord Ganesha. Ideally, they are prepared with moulds then steam cooked but I gave it a creative twist of doing without moulds which were good enough to enjoy. There are endless options to prepare this sweet delight with a variety of stuffing. I used powdered sugar, though I kept it less sugary but for a healthier version, go for jaggery/brown sugar or it is better to forget about healthy side during festivities. ☺️Eat everything that you wish for and enjoy. So, check out the recipe below and give it a try!

Steps
- 1
Heat ghee in a pan/kadhai and roast nuts for modak filling. Take them out and allow to cool. In the same pan, add dessicated coconut and roast till it changes to golden brown.
- 2
Allow to cool, then add roasted nuts, sugar and cardamom powder. Mix well and keep aside.
- 3
Now boil water in a pan. Add ghee and salt. Take rice flour in a bowl and knead a soft dough with this hot water.
- 4
Take small ball size portion from the dough and flatten it to bowl shape.
- 5
Place the prepared stuffing and seal the edges. Remove the extra portion of the dough from the top. Before keeping them in a mould/steamer, i tried to make impressions with a knife.
- 6
Place them in a steamer or idli moulds for steam cooked with saffron strands. Once done, drizzle few teaspoons of ghee and it is ready to offer ganpati bappa ☺️
