Apart from the sugar, this was 'free' as the apples are homegrown and the blackberries picked by grandchildren from the wild. (alright,our local woods!)

Apart from the sugar, this was 'free' as the apples are homegrown and the blackberries picked by grandchildren from the wild. (alright,our local woods!)
Steps

Peel and core the apples, remove any bruises etc. Cut into small chunks.

Place in preserving pan/saucepan with 1/2 cup water, bring to slow simmer and cook until soft.

Add blackberries, bring to boil, simmer for 5 minutes.

Add sugar, bring to boil, boil for about 30 minutes, until a spoonful on a cold plate forms a 'skin', about 225°F if you have a candy thermometer.

Carefully pour into sterillised, preheated jars, cover add lids, label, date, allow to cool, enjoy.
