Ingredients

  1. 1 cuphalf and half
  2. 1 1/2 cupgranulated sugar
  3. 1/3 cupflour, may need a bit more
  4. 1 tspvanilla
  5. dashsalt
  6. 4 cupbaking apples, peeled, cored and sliced thin
  7. 1unbaked pie shell
  8. 1/2 cupflour
  9. 1/3 cupbrown sugar
  10. 1/2 stickunsalted butter ( 4 tablespoons ) cut into small pieces
  11. 1ground cinnamon

Cooking Instructions

    Combine filling ingredients , except apples, in a mixing bowl.

    Place sliced apples in the unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle with cinnamon to taste. Can add nutmeg if desired.

    Pour filling mixture over apples and smooth until even over apples.

  4. 4

    To make topping, combine brown sugar, flour and butter. Cut with pastry cutter or 2 knives until crumbly.

    Sprinkle crumb mixture over top of pie.

  6. 6

    Bake at 450°F for 15 minutes, then reduce oven to 350°F.

    Bake additional 45-50 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.

    VARIATION:

    You can substitute 1 cup sour cream for the half and half, or use 1/2 cup of each half and half/ 1/2 cup sour cream.

    I love this both ways. I hope you enjoy this. Very good with vanilla ice cream when fresh and hot out of the oven.
