These cookies are very buttery but light and crispy. I have been using this recipe for more than 5 years.
Steps

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.

Cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl.

Stir in the egg and vanilla extract.

Mix in the sifted dry ingredients until just blended.

Stir in the chocolate chips using a spatula.

Using a teaspoon, drop cookies onto cookie sheets covered with aluminium foil.

Press each cookie down lightly with slightly wet fingers.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the oven.

Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
