Ingredients

  1. Yellow Cake
  2. 1 cupButter (Softened to room temperature)
  3. 2 cupSugar
  4. 4Eggs
  5. 3 cupAll-purpose flour
  6. 2 tspBaking powder
  7. 1/2 tspSalt
  8. 1/2 tspBaking soda
  9. 1 cupButtermilk
  10. 1 tspVanilla
  11. German Chocolate Icing
  12. 1Egg
  13. 2/3 cupSugar
  14. 2/3 cupEvaporated milk
  15. 1/4 cupButter
  16. 1 dashSalt
  17. 3 1/2 ozCoconut
  18. 1/2 cupChopped Pecans

Cooking Instructions

    For the Yellow Cake, Preheat oven to 375°.

    Grease and flour 2 - 9" cake pans.

  3. 3

    Cream butter and sugar. Add and mix the rest of the ingredients.

  4. 4

    Pour batter into cake pans. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Check cake with a toothpick for doneness.

    If making a sheet cake, bake for 35-40 minutes.

    For the German Chocolate Icing.

    In saucepan, beat egg slightly. Stir in sugar, evaporated milk, salt, and butter.

    Cook over Medium heat, for about 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and bubbly.

    Stir in Coconut and Pecans. Cool.

  10. 10

    When cake and icing are cooled, frost both layers of cake, on the top. Then, layer.
